Hey Ladies - The Men Of Venice (by Jayne)

(don't forget to read our Venice Blog - the one posted before this one)

With the insistence of Nancy, I decided to take some pictures of the Men of Venice.  I haven't ever concentrated on taking peoples pictures, so I found it a bit of a challenge.  They don't just stop what they are doing so that you can take a picture.

Anyway, here are some of the Men Of Venice......

Gondalier!

Old Venetian!

Young Venetian!

The Man Who Made Our Murano Glass Plate!

Polizia!

A Vaporetto Captain!

Two Men Making A Deal (that is my story anyway)!

Veterans!

A Man In The Restaurant
(sorry, I couldn't get the light right -
don't worry, you aren't missing anything)!

Three Venetians And A Dog!

"Boy with Frog" by American Artist Charles Ray
This eight foot tall statute is prominently situated outdoors on the
very tip of the Punta della Dogana on the Grand Canal.
“He’s a classic model,” Ray says of the boy,
a family friend of about 12 who posed for him.
“He’s not presenting the frog to Venice but just looking at it as if
he’s just lifted it from the water.”

Back in 2009, the new owner of the Punta della Dogana,
removed a very old and beloved lamp (as seen below) and was
replaced with the "Boy With Frog" statute
- much to chagrin of alot of the Venetians.
Not only was the light beautiful, and romantic,
it was also useful if you were returning at night in your boat.

An Innocent Bystander!

Another Gondalier!

The Men in Uniform!

and.......Tim - well, he was in Venice!
