Travel to Erlangen

We set off to Nuremberg at 9:30am pacific time. Jayne's Mum was there to see us off and wish us well as we set off on the next chapter in our lives.  Nancy loaded us and our 8 bags into the car and delivered us to the airport.  I think she just wanted to be sure that we were definitely leaving!  We were able to have a short but wonderful meeting with Jayne's sister and our niece Kendall after our first leg of our flight to Calgary.  It was so nice of them to trek to the airport and send us off with big hugs on our adventure.

Jayne adapted rather well to Air Canada's Executive class and although the flight was delayed by over an hour we did manage to make our connection after a 2 mile sprint in Frankfurt.  This was rather gruelling after a 9 hour flight and at 3 am pacific time.  We made the flight, but Jayne's bike did not.  After two trips back to the airport, and dealing with Colonel Klink at customs, it was released. So there are two of us, and eight bags and two bikes, and we are  now nice and cozy in all 20 square feet of the hotel apartment.

Our first scheduled meeting started at 8:30in the morning (11:30pm last night our time).  We now have left our passports with the authorities, set up our bank account, purchased health care, and started the relocation agent on house hunting.  We decided to return the rental car, and therefore spent 4 hrs re assembling our bikes.  So after 26 hours of travel, a half day of meetings, and a half day of bike assembly and a few more hours of sleep, we are now ready to start Adventure Germany.  I think we lost a half day somewhere, but I guess we get that back when we return home to Canada in a few years?

Time to go!

Bags are Packed

It is Friday August 26th at 5am.  We have our bikes at the airport and our bags are packed.  By bags, we mean tonnage.  Moving via suitcases is a bit challenging to say the least.  We just received an email that the money we transferred to Germany has arrived, so our Europe travel budget is in place and once we reassemble our bikes, we will be off somewhere.  We leave tomorrow and arrive in Nuremberg mid afternoon on Sunday.
We have meetings booked starting at 8:30 Monday morning, so we will just have to skip the 9hr time change jet lag.
One final clean of the Victoria house, dinner with Jayne's Mum, and one more sleep, and we are off to Adventure Germany!
